Simultaneous Drug Raids in Miri: RM120,000 in Narcotics Seized

MIRI, 1 May 2025 — Two men, including a foreigner, were arrested in Miri following two separate but simultaneous raids by police, leading to the seizure of various drugs worth over RM120,000.

According to Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the first raid took place at a local entertainment centre around 12.10am on Saturday. The suspect, a 27-year-old man, was arrested by the Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND).

“During the raid, police found drugs suspected to be Ecstasy powder (1,396.8 grams), Ecstasy pills (37 grams), ketamine (10.2 grams), and a drug pod (66.9 grams). These are worth about RM25,620 and could be used by approximately 1,509 addicts,” he said during a press conference at the Miri Police Headquarters today.

The suspect also tested positive for Methamphetamine during the initial urine screening. The investigation is being handled by Inspector Muhammad Nor Hafizuddin Roslan.

In a separate operation at around 1.25pm the same day, a second team from the Sarawak IPK Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department raided a house and arrested a 35-year-old local man.

During the inspection, police found suspected marijuana weighing 31,400 grams, worth around RM97,340. They also seized a Perodua Axia car valued at RM20,000. The drugs could potentially be used by over 155,000 addicts.

This suspect tested negative during the initial urine test, and the investigation is being led by Inspector Muhammad Luqman Hakim Roslan.

Both men are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death.

Mohd Farhan thanked the public for their tip-offs, which made the successful raids possible.

“We urge the public to keep reporting suspicious activities to the Miri IPD or the nearest police station. Your cooperation helps us fight drug trafficking and keep the community safe,” he added.
