Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee, officiated the event on Saturday, stressing that the parade proves Christmas celebrations are embraced by all levels of society – from children and students to youth, parents, and the elderly. “This is proof that this festival truly belongs to all of us,” she said.

Rodiyah emphasised that diversity is not merely a social reality but a strength that must be preserved and celebrated.

She noted that the spirit of racial unity in Simunjan is consistently demonstrated, with communities of different faiths – whether Islam or Christianity – coming together in harmony.

She expressed her intention for the pre-Christmas parade to become an annual programme included in the official district calendar, potentially attracting foreign visitors to witness Simunjan’s unique culture and diversity.

Rodiyah also highlighted the role of the Other Religions Affairs Unit (UNIFOR) as evidence of the Sarawak Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all religious communities.

She explained that UNIFOR ensures fair attention is given to churches, temples, shrines, and other houses of worship through assistance and support for religious activities.

“This shows that the Sarawak Government always ensures that all religions are given fair attention so that we can continue to live in peace and harmony,” she added.

She further called on churches and houses of worship in Simunjan that have not yet registered with UNIFOR to do so, to facilitate access to government assistance.

The event was attended by Simunjan State Assemblyman Awla Dris, Christmas Parade Committee Chairman Pastor Piot Japok, and Penghulu Jubin Sili, reflecting strong community support for the celebration.
