SIMUNJAN — The rural township of Simunjan is poised to become a new economic growth centre in the Samarahan Division with the implementation of a RM16.3 million commercial development project currently underway.
Simunjan State Assemblyman (ADUN), Awla Dris, visited the project site yesterday to review the progress of Package A, which includes the development of a Food Court, Cottage Industry area, and Guest Market — key components seen as crucial to stimulating rural economic activity.
“This is more than just physical infrastructure. It’s a strategic move to strengthen the local economic and entrepreneurial ecosystem,” Awla stated. “The new modern facility will provide a conducive and organised space for business, encouraging active local participation in the commercial sector.”
Launched on April 15, the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Package A encompasses the construction of food stalls, cottage industry premises, wet and dry markets, public amenities such as toilets, access roads, drainage systems, and electricity supply stations.
In addition, Package B — already in progress — will see the development of 10 two-storey shophouses and 10 two-storey mini shops. Together, both phases form the backbone of a planned and sustainable new township in Simunjan.
Awla expressed confidence that the project, once completed, will not only greatly benefit the local population but also serve as a magnet for outside investors.
Also present during the site inspection were Simunjan District Council Acting Secretary Sabli Razak and Deputy Head of PBB Simunjan Branch, Bojeng Ali.
