49 Simunjan Flood Victims Receive Financial Aid Under Kindness Cash Programme

SIMUNJAN — A total of 49 heads of household (KIR) affected by the recent 2024/2025 Northeast Monsoon floods in Simunjan District received Kindness Cash Assistance (BWI) during an official ceremony held on Tuesday.

The financial aid was presented by Simunjan State Assemblyman (ADUN), Awla Dris, in a symbolic handover event aimed at supporting residents impacted by seasonal flooding. The BWI initiative, channelled through the Simunjan District Office, is a government programme designed to ease the immediate burden on disaster victims and aid in their recovery.

Each recipient received monetary assistance to help cover essential post-flood expenses. Awla Dris underscored that this effort reflects the government’s concern for the wellbeing of affected communities and its dedication to ensuring no one is left behind during times of crisis.

“This financial aid is not just economic support — it’s a sign that the government is present and attentive to the needs of its people,” said Awla.

The event also featured the official presentation of the Certificate of Appointment to a newly named Head of the Tribe.

Simunjan District Officer Sanuyah Mohamad, who also chairs the Simunjan District Disaster Management Committee, expressed gratitude to all involved, especially during operations at the Dewan Mesra Simunjan Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS).

Also present were Idris Ibrahim, Special Officer to Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee; Acting Secretary of the Simunjan District Council, Sabli Razak; Chinese Community Outreach Officer, Liew Wee Tchiun; and several department heads, tribal leaders, and community figures.

The BWI programme is a one-off aid initiative, part of the federal government’s proactive strategy in disaster response and community resilience building.
