PADAWAN – Sarawak’s Deputy Minister of Transport (Air and Road), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, has conducted an official visit to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kambug to assess critical infrastructure needs, especially the construction of a new bridge and better connecting roads.
The visit was prompted by appeals from the school and local community due to the deteriorating condition of the existing bridges used daily by 123 students, 16 teachers, and seven staff members to cross Sungai Biak.
“This visit is to see first-hand the development needs in this school, especially the bridge that is very important for the continuation of children’s education in the area,” said Dr Jerip.
He was accompanied by:
- Julius Scott Sapong, Administrative Officer, Padawan Small District Office
- Mollin Katis, Head Teacher of SK Kambug
- JKR Kuching Division representatives
- Local community leaders
Dr Jerip said that the JKR Kuching Division has been tasked to conduct a full technical evaluation for a motorable bridge, which may take the form of either a belly bridge or concrete structure.
The proposed development plan also includes:
- Construction of link roads
- Parking spaces
- Water drainage and reservoir systems to prevent erosion and landslides
“We have previously allocated RM90,000 for new desks and school equipment. Moving forward, we will consider building a multi-purpose hall, field, and other essential facilities,” he added.
Dr Jerip, who is also the Mambong State Assemblyman (ADUN), said the next phase of the project will depend on the outcome of the technical and design reports from JKR, followed by budget approvals from the Sarawak Government.
