SIMUNJAN – Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK Sungai Apin) has received an allocation of RM150,000 to upgrade its sports facilities, marking a significant step towards improving recreational and educational infrastructure in rural Sarawak.
Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee, announced that the project began last month and is currently progressing actively. The scope of work includes building perimeter walls, installing sewerage drainage and planting grass to create a safer and more comfortable sports field.
“These facilities are important to promote a healthy lifestyle, provide quality recreational spaces and open up opportunities for students to develop their sports talents in a more organised and disciplined manner,” Rodiyah said during the Koperasi Prihatin Bersama Pelajar Programme on Thursday.
She emphasised that such improvements are particularly vital in rural areas, where access to quality facilities can significantly influence students’ character development and physical growth. The project reflects the government’s broader commitment to strengthening rural education and community well-being.
Rodiyah also revealed that SK Sungai Apin has been listed as one of the dilapidated schools under the 12th Malaysia Plan, with a full upgrade project scheduled for 2027. This initiative, part of the RM1 billion allocation for school rehabilitation, will involve comprehensive improvements to the institution’s facilities.
In addition to the sports upgrade, the cooperative movement extended its support through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions amounting to RM27,200.
The assistance included school equipment worth RM150 for 88 students from Pre-School to Year 5, cash contributions of RM200 for 10 Year 6 students, and an Interactive SMART TV valued at RM12,000 to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness.
The ceremony was attended by Simunjan State Assemblyman Awla Dris, Sarawak Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) Director Norazlan Anuar, Simunjan District Education Officer Hasbi Ancheh, and SK Sungai Apin Headmaster Ibrahim Lobot, who joined in recognising the importance of the project for the school community.
The allocation and CSR support highlight a dual commitment to both infrastructure and educational resources, ensuring that SK Sungai Apin students benefit from improved facilities and modern learning tools. The initiative is expected to foster healthier lifestyles, stronger academic engagement and greater opportunities for talent development among rural students.
