KOTA SAMARAHAN – Construction of the pedestrian link bridge at the SM03 station of the Kuching Autonomous Rapid Transit has reached an important stage, with the first half of the bridge structure successfully installed.
The work marks steady progress in the development of Sarawak’s ART network, designed to deliver efficient and sustainable public transport for Greater Kuching.
Contractors plan to install the second half of the pedestrian bridge in the coming days, completing the structure that will allow commuters to reach the station safely and conveniently.
The station stands near the Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA) office building and sits within a growing residential area.
Once operations begin, the SM03 station is expected to serve as a key link between Kota Samarahan and Kuching.
The new connection will help thousands of daily commuters travel between the two areas while easing traffic along the busy route.
Sarawak Metro, which oversees the ART project, thanked road users for their patience during the construction period.
Officials acknowledged the temporary disruptions but stressed the long-term advantages of the transport system.
The ART project forms part of Sarawak’s broader push toward modern and environmentally friendly transport infrastructure.
The pedestrian bridge plays an important role in the station layout by providing safe access for passengers and supporting smooth movement between surrounding neighbourhoods and the ART network.
Residents in the area have welcomed the development, saying improved public transport will make daily commuting easier.
Many also believe the project will support the continued growth of Kota Samarahan by strengthening connections with nearby business and residential centres.
As construction moves forward, Sarawak Metro reiterated its commitment to delivering a reliable and sustainable transport network.
Completion of the pedestrian bridge marks another step in the state’s effort to build modern infrastructure for its expanding population.
