SIBU – Nine primary schools in the Nangka constituency have received 18 smart televisions to enhance digital teaching and learning (PdP), particularly in Mathematics, Science and English.
The initiative, announced by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Skills Development Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapaee, aims to provide students with a more interactive and engaging learning environment that reflects the demands of modern education.
Dr. Annuar explained that the transformation of PdP is being supported through collaboration with ARC Technologies Sdn. Bhd., which is converting Primary 4 to Primary 6 textbooks into digital formats. These materials will include animation, interactive features and playful learning elements designed to make lessons more appealing.
“ARC is developing 30 digital chapters, 10 for each subject, based on the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) syllabus. Once completed, teachers will no longer rely on blackboards or old textbooks. Learning will be enjoyable and easy to learn.” he said during the donation ceremony at SK Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku, on Wednesday.
The Deputy Minister expressed confidence that the new approach would increase students’ interest in STEM subjects and improve performance in the Dual Language Programme (UP-DLP) Examination. He noted that recent UP-DLP results highlighted weaknesses in Mathematics and Science, underscoring the need for stronger interventions.
Dr. Annuar also acknowledged the shortage of specialist teachers in these subjects, describing it as a major challenge. To address this, he announced that a special intervention workshop, Empowering Mathematics and Science Sarawak (EMAS), will be held in mid-January next year.
The programme will involve head teachers and Parents and Teachers Associations (PIBG) in developing a comprehensive academic enhancement plan.
He further explained that the UP-DLP is being used to prepare students for entry into the Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS), which has become a popular choice among parents seeking international-standard education for their children.
Dr. Annuar urged parents and PIBG members to play an active role in supporting students’ learning at home, ensuring that the facilities provided by the government are fully utilised.
Also present at the ceremony was Hamdi Najdi, Principal of SK Kampung Bahagia Jaya, who welcomed the initiative as a step forward in modernising classroom learning.
Observers believe that the integration of smart technologies into rural schools will help bridge the gap between urban and rural education, while strengthening Sarawak’s long-term focus on STEM education and digital readiness.
