BINTANGOR – The drive towards a technology-led classroom environment in the Meradong district has taken a significant leap forward. SMK Bandar Bintangor recently became the beneficiary of a generous donation comprising 12 high-specification LCD projectors, aimed at modernising the daily academic experience for its student body and faculty.
The contribution was spearheaded by the Meradong State Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing. This initiative is designed to bolster the school’s digital infrastructure, specifically targeting the needs of Form Four and Form Five students as they prepare for their critical Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations.
By integrating these visual tools into the curriculum, the school aims to move away from traditional, static teaching methods. The introduction of multimedia resources is expected to create a more immersive and stimulating environment, which pedagogical research suggests significantly improves information retention and student engagement.
During the official handover ceremony, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing expressed his unwavering commitment to ensuring that rural and semi-urban schools are not left behind in the global shift towards digital literacy. He noted that the modernisation of teaching and learning (T&L) facilities is no longer a luxury but a fundamental requirement for contemporary education.
“Adopting an interactive and technology-centric approach to instruction is vital for equipping our youth with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern world,” Datuk Ding remarked. He further urged both the faculty and the students to fully exploit these new resources to achieve excellence in their upcoming academic assessments.
The Assemblyman highlighted that this move aligns perfectly with the wider Sarawak government’s agenda to transform the state into a digital powerhouse. Under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, the state has prioritised human capital development, with a particular emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and digital competency.
In addition to the technological boost, Datuk Ding took the opportunity to conduct a comprehensive walkthrough of the school’s physical grounds. His inspection focused on the climate control systems within the lecture halls. Ensuring that the air conditioning units are fully functional is seen as essential for maintaining a conducive atmosphere during intensive academic seminars and extra-curricular programmes.
The secondary school, located in the heart of Bintangor, serves a diverse community. Providing such tools helps level the playing field, ensuring that students in the Meradong region have access to the same technological advantages as their urban counterparts in Kuching or Sibu.
Education experts note that the use of LCD projectors allows teachers to access a vast array of online databases, educational videos, and interactive software in real-time. This dynamic shift is intended to inspire a greater interest in complex subjects, particularly in the sciences and humanities, which often benefit from visual representation.
As the academic year progresses, the faculty at SMK Bandar Bintangor plans to undergo internal training sessions to maximise the utility of the new equipment. This ensures that the digital transformation is not merely about hardware, but also about the pedagogical evolution of the teaching staff.
The community has welcomed the gesture, viewing it as a vital investment in the future leaders of the state. With improved facilities and a renewed focus on interactive learning, SMK Bandar Bintangor is well-positioned to see an upward trend in its SPM performance and overall student development metrics.
