SMK Lake Bau Replacement Project on Track for January 2026 Completion

BAU — The full replacement project for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Lake has reached 63.45% completion as of 15 August 2025, with final delivery now slated for 25 January 2026.

The RM79 million project, managed by Eden Empire Development Sdn. Bhd., includes 42 classrooms, a 300-bed dormitory (200 for boys, 100 for girls), an administration block, dining hall, surau, and other support facilities.

Once completed, it will provide students in Tasik Biru with a safer and more conducive learning environment.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Rivers and Marine) and Tasik Biru State Assemblyman, Dato Henry Harry Jinep, said the project’s timeline had been extended by 41 days under an Extension of Time (EOT) due to site challenges.

“This project was supposed to be completed on December 15, 2025, but the extension was necessary because Bau is a limestone area with many cavities and unexpected foundation stone types. These factors complicated construction but do not represent a major delay,” he explained during a site visit on Tuesday.

Henry emphasized the project’s significance for educational advancement in the district, assuring that close monitoring would continue to ensure timely delivery.

“This project is vital to create a more conducive learning environment for SMK Lake students. I will continue to follow up so the community here can soon enjoy the benefits,” he said.

The development is part of Sarawak’s wider efforts to upgrade rural education infrastructure, ensuring equitable access to modern facilities for students across the state.
