SRI AMAN – The roofed basketball court at SMK Lingga was officially inaugurated today, marking a significant step in enhancing sports and educational infrastructure for rural students in Sarawak.

The project, funded through a RM200,000 Special Allocation under the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia’s 2024 initiative, is scheduled for full completion by April 20, 2025. It forms part of the 2021 Batang Lupar Parliament’s People-Friendly Project, executed in collaboration with the Sarawak State Development Office and the Sri Aman District Education Office.

The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Batang Lupar Member of Parliament, Mohamad Shafizan Kepli, and witnessed by Sarawak State Development Office Deputy Director, Wan Fadillah Wan Ahmad, Sri Aman District Education Officer, Abdul Rahman Muhiyuddin, and Principal of SMK Lingga, Mesra Beji.

The new roofed court provides a comfortable and weatherproof facility for sports, school assemblies, and other events. It also supports Sarawak’s broader sustainable development goals in rural education.

In his address, Mohamad Shafizan reaffirmed his commitment to educational improvements, announcing an additional RM100,000 allocation under the Madani Infrastructure Project (PRISMA) to enhance infrastructure and electricity access at the court.

He also contributed a Smart TV to SMK Lingga to promote digital learning, reflecting efforts to bridge the digital divide in rural schools.
