South Korea’s Black Eagles on display at ADEX 2025

SEONGNAM – The skies above Seongnam City were painted with white smoke and vibrant national colours as the South Korean Air Force’s Black Eagles aerobatic team delivered a stunning performance for the opening of the Seoul International Aerospace & Defence Exhibition (ADEX).

The event, which runs through Sunday, marks a significant return for the airshow, showcasing the nation’s growing aerospace ambitions against a backdrop of regional security concerns.

Hundreds of spectators gathered on Tuesday, their eyes turned upwards as the team’s eight T-50B jets executed a series of precise formations and daring manoeuvres.

The display, set to a stirring soundtrack of patriotic music, featured the aircraft weaving intricate patterns, including their signature “taegeuk” formation, representing the symbol at the centre of the South Korean flag.

The roar of the engines and the crisp aerial ballet served as a powerful demonstration of military precision and national pride.

The ADEX exhibition is one of Asia’s largest defence and aerospace trade shows, and this year’s event is particularly focused on displaying South Korea’s burgeoning defence industry.

Alongside the aerial displays, the static exhibition on the ground features cutting-edge military technology, including the homegrown KF-21 Boramae fighter jet.

South Korea is actively pursuing a goal to become one of the world’s top four arms exporters, and ADEX acts as a crucial platform for international buyers.

A defence ministry official highlighted the broader significance of the event. “ADEX is not just an airshow; it is a strategic venue to display our technological prowess and strengthen our defence partnerships,” the official stated, underscoring the commercial and diplomatic aims of the exhibition.

For the public, however, the primary draw was the sheer spectacle. Families and aviation enthusiasts cheered as the Black Eagles, grounded for a period during the pandemic, returned to their premier showcase.

“It’s breathtaking to see such skill and coordination. It fills you with a sense of awe and national confidence,” remarked one attendee, capturing the sentiment of the crowd.

The performance solidifies the Black Eagles’ role not just as a military unit, but as a soaring symbol of South Korean technological achievement and deterrence.
