KUCHING – Construction of the SR05 ART Station under the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project is steadily advancing, with piers and pier caps being installed as part of the structural works.
Several additional pier caps are scheduled for installation over the coming weekend, marking continued progress on the site.
Strategically located near the Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal and surrounded by commercial areas and eateries, the SR05 station will serve as the starting point of the Red Line in Phase 1 of the KUTS Project.
Once completed, the station will connect directly to SR06 at Kuching International Airport and subsequently to the city centre, offering seamless travel for both residents and visitors.
Sarawak Metro, the agency overseeing the project, emphasised that the development of the ART system is designed to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and provide a modern, sustainable public transport solution for Kuching.
The integration of the Red Line with key transport hubs such as the airport and bus terminal is expected to significantly enhance convenience for tourists and strengthen mobility for the local community.
The KUTS Project forms part of Sarawak’s broader infrastructure strategy to modernise urban transport and support economic growth.
By introducing an advanced ART system, the state aims to deliver a reliable and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional road transport.
Observers note that the SR05 station’s location near Kuching Sentral positions it as a vital gateway for passengers entering or leaving the city.
The project is anticipated to boost commercial activity in the surrounding area while also improving accessibility to key destinations.
With construction progressing ahead, the SR05 ART Station is set to play a central role in transforming Kuching’s public transport landscape, aligning with Sarawak’s vision of building a modern, inclusive and sustainable city.
