SRI AMAN – Firefighters from the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station responded to a call on Monday evening, 6 April 2026, after residents reported the presence of a large insect nest inside a longhouse at Skra Ulu.
The incident was reported at 8.24 pm by a resident identified as Tr. Vincent, who contacted the Sri Aman control room directly.
The location was approximately 11 kilometres from the station, prompting a rapid deployment of the emergency response team.
The operation was led by PB Albert Shee Ji Long, who commanded the team on site. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the presence of a wasp nest lodged between the ceiling beams of the longhouse.
The team, equipped with full protective gear, used a ladder to access the site and applied insecticide sprays to neutralise the threat.
According to the commander’s report, three units of Baygon spray were deployed to ensure complete destruction of the nest.
No other agencies were involved in the operation, and no senior officers were present at the scene. The team concluded the mission after verifying that no further danger remained. The firefighters then returned safely to the station.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department has frequently responded to similar incidents in Sri Aman, ranging from snake removals to house fires.
Just hours earlier on the same day, firefighters were dispatched to remove a snake from the MARA Sri Aman office, highlighting the department’s wide-ranging responsibilities in safeguarding the community.
Local authorities continue to remind residents to report such hazards promptly, as insect nests and wildlife intrusions can pose serious risks to health and safety.
Insect stings, particularly from wasps, can cause severe allergic reactions, making swift intervention essential.
The Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station, located along Jalan Polis, remains the primary emergency response centre for the district. Its personnel are trained to handle diverse situations, from structural fires to wildlife encounters.
This latest incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and the readiness of emergency services in Sarawak.
