SRI AMAN – Preparations are in full swing as Sri Aman readies itself to host the Twins Championship 103 (TC103) on 15 November 2025, a milestone event that underscores the division’s growing role in the development of combat sports in central Sarawak.
The coordination meeting, chaired by Resident of Sri Aman Division, Mahra Salleh, focused on ensuring smooth logistics and encouraging strong community participation.
He said the championship would not only showcase professional boxing talent from across Malaysia and the wider Borneo region but also stimulate sports tourism and local economic activity.
“Every championship we organise creates social and economic value. It opens opportunities for small entrepreneurs and strengthens a healthy, competitive community spirit,” Mahra remarked after the session at the Sri Aman Resident Office.
The event is expected to attract boxing fans from surrounding districts, with organisers confident that TC103 will set a benchmark for future sporting calendars in the division.
Mahra added that the tournament would serve as a launchpad for more structured events in the years ahead, supported by growing interest from local stakeholders and regional organisations.
Building a Boxing Development Hub
Beyond the immediate excitement of TC103, Sri Aman is positioning itself as an emerging boxing development hub for Borneo. Mahra outlined long-term plans to establish a holistic sports ecosystem that nurtures young athletes, strengthens sports entrepreneurship, and promotes a healthy community culture.
The vision includes systematic training pathways, accredited facilities, and a network of certified coaches to elevate youth participation in combat sports. “We want to establish a comprehensive ecosystem, beginning with youth programmes and structured training academies.
With Sri Aman’s strategic location and strong community sporting culture, we have the foundation to build a sustainable Borneo Boxing Hub,” he said.
He stressed that boxing instils discipline, resilience, and self-confidence, steering youths away from negative influences. Schools and TVET institutions are expected to play a role in early talent discovery, ensuring consistent development of future athletes.
Collaboration and Wider Impact
Mahra also highlighted opportunities for collaboration with local and external boxing clubs through talent development programmes, competition circuits, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) sponsorships. He emphasised that sports should be recognised as a driver of national unity, human capital development, and entrepreneurship.
“Boxing is not just about victory. It teaches us how to rise after falling. These values are what we want to instil in our young generation,” he said.
The initiative aligns with national strategies that position youth as key assets in building a healthier, more innovative, and united society. With TC103 as the immediate highlight and long-term plans for a Borneo Boxing Hub, Sri Aman is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of combat sports in Sarawak.
