The site visit was conducted to evaluate the latest progress and receive updates on the implementation of works, which form part of the Sarawak Government’s strategic initiative to strengthen the land transport network between Sarawak and Sabah.

According to the latest figures, SSLR Phase 1 has achieved 71.16 per cent physical progress and remains on track for completion by 16 March 2027.

The project is regarded as a vital component in improving connectivity between the two states, particularly for residents in northern Sarawak.

One of the distinctive features of the project is the introduction of the MyArch Bridge, a modern arch bridge design that not only meets technical and safety requirements but also serves as a new landmark along the route.

The bridge is expected to enhance both the functionality and visual appeal of the road, symbolising progress in infrastructure development.

Dr Cassidy highlighted the importance of ensuring that construction works adhere to quality standards and timelines, noting that the SSLR project represents a significant investment in regional development.

He emphasised that improved road infrastructure will facilitate economic growth, social integration, and safer travel for communities in rural and border areas.

The SSLR Phase 1 project is part of a broader plan to create a more resilient and connected transport system in East Malaysia.

Once completed, the road will reduce travel times, improve accessibility, and support long-term socio-economic development across Sarawak and Sabah.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to delivering the project efficiently, underscoring the role of collaboration between government agencies, contractors, and local stakeholders in ensuring successful outcomes.

With construction progressing steadily, the SSLR Phase 1 project is expected to bring lasting benefits to the region, reinforcing Sarawak’s vision of modernising infrastructure while supporting community welfare.
