The celebrations continue Sunday evening, June 29, with a grand Consecration Mass at 7 p.m., expected to draw approximately 6,000 attendees. The new church seats around 1,000; overflow tents and the old church building will accommodate the rest.

The Gothic-inspired church, built at a cost of RM38 million and funded through parish donations and a RM2 million Sarawak government grant, stands as Kuching’s largest church, showcasing Italian-made stained glass featuring Dayak motifs and the Brooke crest.

Rector Fr Vincent Chin described St Peter’s as “a beacon of heritage, spirituality, and community” and highlighted it as a symbol of religious unity in Kuching’s multi-faith landscape.

The church, built in multiple phases since 2019, replaces the original 1949 structure and comprises the main worship hall, a columbarium completed in 2018, a parish hall, and a future hostel block
