KUCHING: The much-anticipated state-level National Month and Jalur Gemilang Hoisting 2024 launching ceremony is set to unfold this Saturday at the CIDB Convention Centre in Kuching. The event marks a significant moment in Malaysia’s calendar of national celebrations, continuing from the earlier launch led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 21 at Cyber Event Mall, Cyberjaya.

The ceremony will be graced by the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who will officiate the event. This year’s theme, ‘Malaysia MADANI: Spirit of Independence,’ aims to celebrate the nation’s rich heritage and unity. The event will feature a wide array of activities designed to engage the community and foster national pride.
The event will kick off with the official launch of the National Month and Jalur Gemilang for Sarawak 2024. This will be followed by the launch and release of the Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy (KMJG) for Sarawak 2024. The convoy, a significant part of the celebrations, will journey through various locations in Sarawak to promote the spirit of independence.
Attendees can look forward to the Mini MADANI Community Carnival, which will showcase an assortment of entertainment performances. Highlights include:
- PENTARAMA Performances: Enjoy captivating performances by PENTARAMA.
- Rahmah Sales: A unique sales event featuring a range of goods.
- National Exhibitions: Various departments and agencies will present exhibitions.
- Interactive National Activities: Engage in interactive activities celebrating Malaysia’s national heritage.
- Fire-Fighting Demonstrations: Witness live demonstrations by fire-fighting teams.
- VR Experiences: Immerse yourself in Virtual Reality experiences depicting the Life of Prophet Muhammad.
Additionally, 500 free ice creams will be distributed to the public, adding a sweet touch to the festivities.
The event will also feature the MADANI Community Choir, composed of participants from the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency. The performance will include a flash mob involving artistes from PENTARAMA, the Malaysian Information Department (JAPEN), Sarawak, and students from the Malaysian School of the Arts, Sarawak. This collaboration promises to deliver an electrifying display of talent and national pride.
The KMJG for Sarawak 2024 will commence following the Deputy Prime Minister’s kick-off at the CIDB Convention Centre. The convoy will journey through Sarawak in three distinct phases:
- August 6: Lundu and Bau
- August 10: Serian and Samarahan
- Coverage: Bintulu, Miri, Brunei Darussalam, Lawas, Limbang, Tatau, Tanjung Manis, Mukah, Dalat, and Kuching
- Coverage: Kapit, Song, Kanowit, Sarikei, Meradong, Julau, Saratok, Betong, Lubok Antu, and Sri Aman
The convoy aims to engage communities throughout Sarawak, fostering a sense of unity and patriotic spirit.
The public is encouraged to participate in the 1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang (1R1JG) initiative, which promotes national pride by encouraging households to display the Jalur Gemilang. This initiative is a call to action for Malaysians to show their patriotic spirit and support for the nation’s independence celebrations.
