KUCHING — In a lively and meaningful ceremony, the SUKMA torch was symbolically handed over from Sarawak to Selangor, marking the official transition of hosting duties for the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXII). The event brought together state leaders, officials, and colourful mascots, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected the spirit of youth and sportsmanship.
The handover took place following a press conference held during a courtesy visit by the Selangor State Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Exco delegation on Wednesday. As part of the ceremony, the SUKMA flame was jointly raised by representatives from both states, symbolising continuity, shared responsibility, and national unity.
Adding a vibrant touch to the occasion, the Sarawak and Selangor mascots performed playful interactions and coordinated poses, turning the formal event into a visual celebration of camaraderie and friendly rivalry. Their presence highlighted the youthful energy and community spirit that define SUKMA, which continues to inspire athletes and supporters alike.
Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, described the torch-passing as a moment of trust and confidence in Selangor as the incoming host for SUKMA XXII and PARA SUKMA. He reaffirmed Sarawak’s ongoing support for its athletes and emphasised the importance of SUKMA as a platform for nurturing disciplined, resilient, and values-driven young Malaysians.
The courtesy visit and symbolic handover also opened opportunities for closer collaboration between Sarawak and Selangor in areas such as athlete development, sports management, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship initiatives.
The event concluded with both states reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing youth and sports development at the national level. As preparations continue for SUKMA XXII, the symbolic handover serves as a reminder of the enduring unity, cooperation, and enthusiasm that define Malaysia’s sporting landscape.
