Sultan Ibrahim Receives Update on Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil Mosque

JOHOR BAHRUYang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has been presented with a progress report on the construction of the Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil Mosque, a project of deep personal significance to the royal family.

The mosque, located along Jalan Kolam Air near Istana Bukit Serene, is being built using funds left by the late Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, who passed away on 5 December 2015.

The late prince, remembered as Tunku Laksamana Johor, had expressed his wish for the establishment of a mosque, and the project now stands as a tribute to his legacy.

Designed to accommodate nearly 1,000 devotees, the mosque is expected to serve as a vital centre for religious and community activities in Johor Bahru.

Its construction reflects both the enduring memory of the late Tunku Abdul Jalil and the commitment of the Johor royal family to supporting Islamic institutions.

On 30 December, Sultan Ibrahim received senior officials at Istana Pasir Pelangi for the briefing. Among those present were Dato’ Asman Shah Abd Rahman, Secretary to the State of Johor, and Dato’ Yahya Ahmad, Mufti of Johor.

The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between the monarchy and state authorities in ensuring the successful completion of the mosque.

Also in attendance were Mohd Radzi Mohd Amin, Chief Executive Officer of the Johor State Islamic Religious Council, Nasri Ali, Director of the Johor State Islamic Religious Department, and Ir Zainal Tumian, Director of the Johor Public Works Department (JKR).

Their presence underscored the collective effort of religious and administrative bodies in overseeing the project.

The mosque’s construction is part of Johor’s broader commitment to enhancing religious facilities and strengthening community bonds.

Sultan Ibrahim has consistently emphasised the role of mosques not only as places of worship but also as centres for education and social unity.

Observers note that the project carries symbolic weight, as it honours the memory of a beloved royal figure while serving the practical needs of the local population. The initiative also reflects the Johor monarchy’s dedication to preserving cultural and spiritual heritage.

As the construction progresses, the mosque is expected to become a landmark in Johor Bahru, offering both spiritual solace and a reminder of the late Tunku Abdul Jalil’s contributions to the state.

The briefing concluded with prayers for the continued success of the project and blessings upon the royal family.
