SERI KEMBANGAN – The Sultan of Pahang and the Tengku Ampuan Pahang visited the residence of the late Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali here on Monday to pay their respects and offer condolences to her family.
Their Royal Highnesses were accompanied during the visit by the Tengku Mahkota Pahang, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Afzan Aminah Hafidzatullah and her husband, Tuan FD Idzham FD Iskandar.
The royal couple spent about 30 minutes at the residence, where they offered prayers for the late Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah and conveyed their condolences to her husband, former prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, and members of the family.
The visit took place following the death of Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah, whose passing prompted condolences from members of the royal family and others.
During their time at the residence, the Sultan and Tengku Ampuan Pahang also enquired about Dr. Mahathir’s well-being as he mourned the loss of his wife.
They offered words of encouragement and moral support to the former prime minister and his family during the period of bereavement.
The late Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah was subsequently laid to rest at Pusara Negara in Precinct 20, Putrajaya, following Asar prayers on Monday.
Her burial at the national mausoleum followed the earlier gathering of family members, dignitaries and others who came to pay their final respects.
The Sultan and Tengku Ampuan Pahang’s visit was part of the tributes paid following her death, with their attendance reflecting the condolences conveyed to the family during the mourning period.
Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah was the wife of Dr. Mahathir, who served as Malaysia’s prime minister in two separate periods. Her public life included work in medicine and involvement in various social and national causes.
The royal visit in Seri Kembangan took place before the burial in Putrajaya, allowing the Sultan and Tengku Ampuan Pahang to offer their respects to the family at the residence.
The proceedings later concluded with the burial at Pusara Negara after Asar prayers, marking the final stage of the funeral arrangements for the late Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah.
