Wilfred Yap Channels RM400,000 RTP Fund for School Hall Upgrade

KUCHING – Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman YB Wilfred Yap officiated a school programme at SK Mejar Jeneral Dato Ibrahim on 26 September, where a RM400,000 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation for the upgrading of Dewan Sri Lara was highlighted alongside community grants and welfare assistance.

The programme, titled Majlis Semarak Kasih, Restu Ilmu, Sinergi Ibu Bapa, Taman Kitar Semula dan Kesyukuran Dewan Sri Lara SK Mejar Jeneral Dato Ibrahim Tahun 2026, brought together the school’s management, teachers, Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), parents and students.

The upgraded Dewan Sri Lara was completed with funding of RM400,000 channelled through an RTP allocation facilitated by Yap.

The facility is intended to provide additional space for school activities and gatherings while supporting a more functional environment for students and teachers.

Yap said investment in school infrastructure was important in providing students with facilities that were safe, suitable and conducive to learning and extracurricular activities.

“Dewan Sri Lara is more than just a physical facility. It is a space where our students can gather, participate in activities, develop their talents and create meaningful memories during their school years,” he said.

The event also saw the handover of three Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants worth RM5,000 each, bringing the total assistance to RM15,000.

The recipients were Tabung Kebajikan 11 RAMD, Tabung Kebajikan Rejimen 511 Askar Wataniah and the PIBG of SK Mejar Jeneral Dato Ibrahim, with each organisation receiving RM5,000.

In addition to the grants, 10 food baskets were distributed to members of the armed forces and their families who are dealing with chronic illnesses.

Yap said community development should include support for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances, alongside improvements to public facilities.

“Infrastructure is important, but we must also remember the people behind our communities. When a member of the community or a family faces difficult circumstances, we should do what we can to offer support and let them know that they are not alone,” he said.

Environmental education was another focus of the programme, with the establishment of a Recycling Garden at the school.

The initiative is intended to encourage students to develop awareness of recycling and responsible environmental practices from an early age.

“Education is not only about academic achievement. We must also nurture discipline, good values, responsibility and concern for our environment,” Yap said.

He also highlighted the role of cooperation between schools, families and the wider community in supporting children’s development.

“Teachers guide our children in school, parents provide guidance at home, and the community provides support. When we work together, our children benefit,” he said.

The programme combined education, school infrastructure, environmental awareness and welfare assistance, reflecting several areas of community support within the Kota Sentosa constituency.

Yap reiterated his commitment to supporting education, community infrastructure and welfare initiatives in the constituency, with a stated aim of ensuring that children and communities continue to receive support.
