JEMORENG – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rural development by distributing Small Rural Projects (MRP) allocations to communities in Sungai Ilas, Batang Igan. The initiative is designed to ease financial burdens and strengthen grassroots development.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and State Assemblyman for Jemoreng, Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, officiated the handover of MRP cheques totalling RM13,000 to three Sungai Ilas Longhouse Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK).
The ceremony was held in the Jemoreng constituency, marking another step in the government’s ongoing support for rural communities.
The funds will be used to finance small-scale projects, community activities, and improvements to public facilities, ensuring that residents benefit directly from government assistance.
Dr Juanda emphasised that the allocations are part of Sarawak’s broader strategy to ensure development reaches rural and interior areas.
He reminded recipients to manage the funds responsibly, noting that the allocation represents both government and community trust.
“Use this allocation responsibly because it is a trust of the government and the people that must be utilised for the common good,” he said.
The initiative reflects the government’s focus on empowering local communities by providing resources that can be channelled into practical improvements.
From upgrading facilities to supporting cultural and social activities, the allocations are expected to enhance the quality of life in Sungai Ilas.
A representative of the recipients expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Government and Dr Juanda for their continued concern and support.
The appreciation highlighted the importance of such programmes in sustaining community welfare and addressing local needs.
Officials noted that the MRP scheme has become a vital mechanism for ensuring that development is not confined to urban centres but extends to longhouses and villages across Sarawak. By targeting small but impactful projects, the initiative helps bridge gaps in infrastructure and services.
The distribution of funds in Sungai Ilas is part of a wider effort to strengthen rural resilience and promote inclusive growth.
With allocations like these, the government aims to ensure that rural communities are not left behind in the state’s development agenda.
