Sungai Mador Bridge Completed Ahead of Schedule, Boosting Rural Connectivity

MERADONG – The construction of the Sungai Mador Iron Bridge at Mile 8 Jalan KJD has been completed ahead of schedule, providing local residents with safer and more reliable access sooner than expected.

The project, valued at RM250,000, was implemented under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) to strengthen basic facilities and communication networks in Meradong.

Originally scheduled for completion on 17 March 2026, the bridge was handed over on 10 December 2025, thanks to the commitment of contractors and close monitoring by technical agencies.

Meradong State Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the early completion reflects the state government’s dedication to delivering modern and resilient infrastructure for rural communities.

“The early completion of this project proves the effectiveness of the implementation of the RTP in Meradong, besides reflecting close cooperation between government agencies, contractors and local communities,” he said during the handover ceremony on Wednesday.

The new bridge, built with an I-Beam structure, measures 18 metres in length and 4 metres in width. It is designed to support vehicle movement and facilitate the transportation of agricultural products such as pepper, oil palm and fruits.

The reconstruction was necessary as the old bridge had become unsafe, particularly during the rainy season when rising river levels posed risks to users.

The upgraded facility is expected to significantly benefit residents, especially those from approximately five longhouses in the Sungai Mador area who rely on the bridge as their main route to agricultural zones.

By improving connectivity, the bridge is anticipated to boost local economic activities, enabling smoother transport of crops and better access to markets.

It also underscores the government’s broader commitment to enhancing rural infrastructure and ensuring communities are not left behind in development efforts.
