During an official visit to the Marudi fire station, Jamri stressed the importance of continuous improvement, encouraging personnel to maximise their 12-hour shifts by engaging in activities that enhance their knowledge, physical fitness, and firefighting skills.

“Complacency could lead to stagnation,” he said, comparing the potential risk to the downfall of once-leading companies like Nokia. He added that even an award-winning department like Bomba is not immune to such risks if firefighters fail to update their skills and maintain a strong sense of responsibility.

Jamri emphasised the value of continuous training through the Station Task System (STB), where effective communication, knowledge sharing, and hands-on practice are vital to keeping the team prepared for emergencies.

In addition to firefighting duties, Jamri highlighted Bomba’s social responsibility, particularly in helping rural communities. He noted the challenge of assisting 399 longhouses in Marudi due to a lack of funding for essential firefighting equipment like fire extinguishers.

“We have the expertise and logistics. Collaborating with local elected representatives and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) is crucial to ensure we can provide assistance to these communities,” he said.

Jamri also encouraged Bomba personnel to organise awareness campaigns and strengthen engagement with rural residents, helping them better understand fire prevention and safety measures. These efforts, he said, will build stronger connections between firefighters and remote communities, ensuring the well-being of rural residents.

Also present during the visit were Bomba Miri superintendent Ismaidi Ismail, Miri Fire Investigation Branch chief Awangku Mohd Hazmin Awang Zainal, and Marudi fire station chief Jessbent Jenus.
