SRI AMAN – The Tahlil Perdana ceremony held in Kampung Hulu has been hailed as a meaningful initiative to reinforce community ties while promoting religious practices at the local surau.
The event was officiated by Lingga State Assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, who joined residents in the recitation of Surah Yasin and tahlil prayers. Her presence underscored the importance of community participation in strengthening both spiritual and social bonds.
During the programme, she announced an allocation of RM5,000 to Surau Hayatul Islam, aimed at supporting religious activities and enhancing the surau’s role as a centre for spiritual development. The contribution is expected to assist in sustaining programmes that nurture faith and community spirit.
The ceremony also included a special tahlil dedicated to the late father and son of fire victim Siti Mahfuzah, who lost family members in a tragic incident at the People’s Housing Plan (RPR) area. In a gesture of compassion, Dayang Noorazah presented a cash donation to Siti Mahfuzah and her family to help ease their burden following the tragedy.
The evening continued with a communal breaking of fast, followed by congregational Maghrib prayers and a shared meal. The atmosphere was marked by goodwill and togetherness, reflecting the event’s broader purpose of fostering unity among Kampung Hulu residents.
Community leaders highlighted that such programmes not only strengthen religious observance but also encourage a culture of mutual assistance. By bringing people together, the Tahlil Perdana serves as a reminder of the importance of solidarity in overcoming challenges and building resilience.
Religious gatherings of this nature have long been a cornerstone of rural communities in Sarawak, offering opportunities for residents to connect, support one another, and reaffirm shared values. The ceremony in Kampung Hulu is seen as part of ongoing efforts to preserve traditions while adapting to modern community needs.
Organisers expressed hope that similar initiatives will continue to be held regularly, reinforcing the spirit of brotherhood and ensuring that surau institutions remain vibrant centres of faith and community life.
