Takai Milling Carrier Closure Ceremony Celebrated

Gawai Closing Marks Cultural Unity and Community Togetherness

RPR LANDEH, BATU KITANG – The vibrant spirit of Sarawak’s cultural heritage was on full display as residents gathered for the Takai Milling Carrier Closure Ceremony held in Lane 6, Taman Sri Permai, in conjunction with the end of the Gawai season. Organised by the local community and supported by the family of Mr. Katang, the celebration brought people of all ages together in a joyful evening of tradition, gratitude, and unity.

The event, which marked the closing of Gawai Dayak festivities, featured a symbolic presentation of contributions and an exchange of traditional souvenirs—signs of mutual respect and cultural appreciation. The warm atmosphere and strong communal spirit were a testament to the organisers’ dedication to preserving age-old customs in a rapidly modernising world.

Among the honoured guests was Lo Khere Chiang, who expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Katang family and the organising committee for the kind invitation and for their efforts in making the evening memorable.

“The event was truly lively and heart-warming,” said Lo. “It is uplifting to see residents of all generations come together to celebrate our rich traditions. Such efforts play a crucial role in maintaining the cultural identity of our communities and passing it down to future generations.”

He also commended the organisers for their commitment to cultural preservation and community bonding. “May our cherished customs and traditions continue to thrive and be proudly inherited by those who come after us.”

The event concluded with a shared hope that the unity, joy, and cultural richness displayed during the Gawai season will continue to flourish in Batu Kitang and beyond.
