Tanjong Batu State Assemblyman (ADUN), Johnny Pang Leong Ming, confirmed the temporary closure, stating that the fire is believed to have been caused by the ongoing hot weather and possible human negligence, such as the careless disposal of cigarette butts.

“Thick smoke can be seen from a distance. I urge all climbers and visitors not to smoke or throw cigarette butts irresponsibly,” he said in a public statement via his official Facebook page.

He also reminded the public to respect nature and avoid littering in forest areas.

“Our forests are not rubbish bins. Please treat them with care and responsibility,” Pang added firmly.

The temporary closure of the climbing area is a precautionary safety step to avoid any harm to visitors, especially due to the thick smoke that could pose a serious risk to respiratory health.

“I have received updates from the local authorities. The climbing trail is now closed temporarily. This smoke is harmful to your lungs. Please avoid visiting the area for now,” Pang continued.

Authorities are currently monitoring the situation closely and assessing the damage caused by the fire. No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.

Local residents and visitors are advised to follow safety instructions and stay updated through official channels. The public is also encouraged to play a part in protecting natural areas by practicing responsible and environmentally conscious behaviour.
