Tanjong Manis Set to Host Thrilling Muaythai Challenge on Jan 24-25

KUCHING (Jan 6): The inaugural Muaythai Challenge P206 Tanjong Manis is set to kick off on Jan 24-25, attracting nearly 100 fighters from various regions, including Miri, Bintulu, Samarahan, Kuching, Bau, and West Kalimantan. The event, held at the Taman Susur Basketball Stadium in Sarikei, is organised by the State Muaythai Association (PMNS) in collaboration with the Tanjong Manis Parliament Service Centre.

Unearthing New Talents
Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abd Wahab highlighted the significance of this tournament in scouting fresh talents who can represent Sarawak at national and international levels. “Sarawak’s muaythai squad topped the medal tally at Sukma XXI, and we aim to maintain this momentum for Sukma XXII in Selangor,” said Yusuf during a press conference.

He also encouraged local youth to embrace muaythai as a healthy lifestyle and participate in this free-entry event, which promises excitement for all attendees.

Exciting Activities and Matches
The two-day event will kick off with a ‘Come Try Muaythai’ session on Jan 24, offering attendees an opportunity to learn about the sport. This will be followed by approximately 40 thrilling bouts, including professional superfights and semi-pro matches, ensuring non-stop action for muaythai fans.

Confirmed participants include top clubs such as PS Muaythai Bintulu, RAFF Teras Muaythai Gym Selangor, Muaythai Kenyalang Kuching, Sting Muaythai Kuching, Bau Muaythai, Singa-30 Muaythai Miri, Legacy Muaythai Kuching, Phoenix Meranek Samarahan, and West Borneo Muaythai from West Kalimantan.

Community Engagement
Yusuf hopes the event will foster a stronger community spirit and provide a platform to promote muaythai to rural areas. “This is a golden opportunity for Sarikei residents to enjoy an exciting tournament and support local talent,” he added.
