KUALA LUMPUR – Members of the Tanjong Parliamentary team recently visited the Parliament building as part of an initiative to deepen grassroots understanding of Malaysia’s parliamentary system and governance structure.
The programme, facilitated by Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, provided participants with the opportunity to witness the proceedings of the Dewan Rakyat firsthand and to learn about the respective roles of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara in shaping national policy and safeguarding public interests.
During the visit, the delegation also held engagement sessions with several lawmakers, including Deputy Minister of Plantations and Commodities Chan Foong Hin, Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin, Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee, and Kampar MP Chong Zhemin.
The discussions offered practical insights into parliamentary processes and the role of elected representatives in ensuring that citizens’ voices are represented at the national level.
In a statement, Lim Hui Ying said initiatives of this kind play an important role in building awareness of Malaysia’s democratic institutions.
“Strengthening grassroots understanding of governance helps communities appreciate how these institutions safeguard the welfare and well-being of the people,” she noted.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts by parliamentarians to bridge the gap between legislative processes and the public, while encouraging civic awareness and participation.
