BAU – The Sarawak Government has committed to uplifting the socioeconomic development of the Tasik Biru constituency by constructing several new community centres, announced Deputy Minister of Transport (Riverine and Marine), Dato Henry Harry Jinep.
These community hubs are set to transform the landscape of local engagement by offering facilities for entrepreneurship, education, culture, and sports. Among the approved projects are:
- Jagoi Community Centre – RM5 million
- Bratak Community Centre – RM3 million
- Skiat Baru Community Centre – RM2 million
- Skiat Lama Community Centre – RM2 million
- Kampung Tasik Biru Community Centre – RM2 million
Although these centres were not applied for officially, Dato Henry said he recognised the urgent need and moved swiftly to secure government allocations. “These centres will provide a safe and inclusive space for community-building, especially among youth and families,” he said.
The announcement was made during a ‘gotong-royong’ programme to clean the Bung Orad hiking trail, organised with PDP Youth and attended by grassroots leaders including Jagoi Penghulu Sumy Lidei and Bratak Penghulu William Morfor Misek.
The event underscored community unity, with residents working hand-in-hand to preserve Bung Orad as a recreational and ecotourism attraction — a step aligned with long-term tourism and social development plans for the area.
