SEMATAN – Teachers serve as vital agents of change within rural communities, particularly in shaping the educational experiences and opportunities of younger generations.
This sentiment was emphasized by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, during an address at the Sarawak Dual Language Programme (UP-DLP) Assessment Test event held here on Friday.
He highlighted that Sarawak’s more than 12,000 teachers under the age of 40 represent a significant potential force for innovation and community development.
He encouraged the use of creative digital education tools, such as interactive applications and game-based learning, to better engage today’s students.
The UP-DLP assessment, scheduled for October 15 and 16, is designed not to rank students from A to F, but to evaluate average mastery levels and school performance, helping identify institutions requiring additional support.
Tanjong Datu State Assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan also spoke at the event, underscoring the importance of English proficiency in STEM education and the development of critical thinking skills.
The gathering was attended by education officials and local leaders, including representatives from the Sarawak State Education Department and the Sarawak Teacher Aspirations Organisation.
