Teamwork Drives Excellence in Sarawak Civil Service

KUCHING – The strength of teamwork has once again been highlighted as the foundation of success within the Sarawak Civil Service, following the smooth organisation of large-scale events in 2025.

Speaking at the Hari Perkhidmatan Awam Sarawak (HPA) 2025 Appreciation Ceremony, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki praised the collective commitment and cooperation across leadership, technical and operational levels.

He emphasised that such achievements reflect the civil service’s ability to deliver under any circumstances.

Major events like this can only be organised when we work together as one team. What has been demonstrated shows that, under any circumstances, the Sarawak Civil Service is capable of carrying out its responsibilities successfully,” he said.

Datuk Amar extended his appreciation to all committees and personnel involved, including those responsible for technical arrangements, security, performances, catering and protocol.

Their dedication ensured the event’s success and demonstrated the civil service’s organisational strength.

He also highlighted the unique cooperation between the Sarawak and Federal civil services, describing it as a defining strength that has gained recognition from external parties.

This is our strength in Sarawak. Whether at the state or Federal level, we work together regardless of where we report. This spirit of unity is what sets us apart,” he added.

The Secretary noted that the performance level of the civil service remains exceptionally high, with award evaluations showing very narrow margins between winners. This, he said, reflects the overall quality and competitiveness of Sarawak’s public service.

Tribute was also paid to civil servants serving in rural and remote areas. Datuk Amar described them as the “true heroes” of the civil service, acknowledging their sacrifices in being away from families and facing challenges to ensure services reach all communities.

“They are not working for popularity but out of responsibility to the rakyat,” he said, underscoring their vital role in maintaining service delivery across Sarawak.

He further expressed gratitude to the state leadership for recognising the contributions of civil servants, including the provision of Special Financial Assistance to enhance the quality of public service delivery.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operation) Datu Hii Chang Kee, and heads of departments.

Their presence reflected the collective support for strengthening Sarawak’s civil service culture of excellence.
