Teen Caught Doing ‘Wheelie’ in Sibu as Police Seize 28 Modified Motorcycles

SIBU: A 16-year-old boy was arrested during a police operation last night after being caught performing a dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunt along Jalan Bujang Suntong and Jalan Awang Ramli Amit.

Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, said the teenager was detained under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless riding that endangered both himself and other road users.

“During the three-hour integrated operation, which ended around midnight, police inspected 43 vehicles and seized 28 motorcycles under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987. These motorcycles had been modified from their original structure or required further inspection,” he said in a media statement today.

ACP Zulkipli added that a total of 128 summonses were issued for various traffic offences, including illegal exhaust modifications, driving without a licence, improper registration numbers, and other violations.

The operation was led by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD Sibu). It was part of an ongoing effort to curb illegal racing and street gang activities involving motorcycles.

He reminded the public, especially young riders, to always prioritise safety and obey traffic regulations.

“These operations will continue from time to time to ensure road users comply with the law,” ACP Zulkipli said. “We urge the public to be careful, responsible, and avoid engaging in activities that may endanger themselves or others on the road.”

He also warned against modifying vehicles, especially installing loud exhausts, as such actions could disturb public peace and order.

Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining road safety and public order in Sibu, saying enforcement efforts will remain active to prevent future accidents and reckless behaviour among motorcyclists.
