Teenager Killed, Seven Injured in Four-Vehicle Crash on Samarahan Road

KOTA SAMARAHAN — A tragic four-vehicle collision on Jalan Samarahan Road By-Pass, Stutong Baru, claimed the life of a 19-year-old motorcyclist early this morning, while seven others sustained minor injuries.

The accident, which occurred around 9.24am, involved two motorcycles and two cars — a Perodua Alza and a Toyota Avanza — believed to be travelling from opposite directions before the impact.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO), seven personnel from the Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving an emergency call.

Operations Commander Lydia Mohammad Sarkawi confirmed that a total of eight victims were involved in the crash.

“The deceased victim was a motorcyclist, and his body has been handed over to the police for further action,” she said.

The remaining victims — five men and two women — suffered minor injuries. Among them was an elderly person who had to be rescued from inside the Toyota Avanza after being trapped.

The department’s Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit provided initial treatment to the injured victims before handing them over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) ambulance team for further medical attention.

In addition to the rescue work, firemen also cleared the accident debris from the road to ensure the safety of other motorists. The operation, which involved the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and MOH personnel, concluded once all victims and vehicles were safely managed.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, especially during peak hours along the Samarahan By-Pass, which has seen several accidents in recent months.
