KUCHING (July 2): The Tematu Gawai Carnival 2024 recently concluded with much fanfare, culminating in the crowning of winners across its prestigious pageants. Held at Kampung Tematu from June 28-29, this year’s festivities celebrated cultural diversity and talent through a series of captivating events.

<strong>Joy Angela John Rover Takes the Crown</strong>

Joy Angela John Rover, hailing from Serian, emerged victorious in the Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu pageant. Her remarkable performance earned her accolades including RM2,000 in cash, a stunning crown, a bouquet, sash, trophy, and a certificate of participation. Notably, Joy also clinched the title of Miss Photogenic, further solidifying her reign as the carnival queen.

<strong>Recognition Across Categories</strong>

Phynterliana Agatha Lambeh Herryson and Lofrenska Fezzie Herick secured the second and third positions respectively in Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu. Each received RM1,800 and RM1,500 along with the regal honors of a crown, bouquet, sash, trophy, and a certificate of participation. Lofrenska additionally shone in subsidiary categories, winning titles such as Miss Tourism, Miss Best Contemporary Dress, and Miss Best Costume.

The Tematu Gawai Carnival showcased a rich tapestry of talents and cultural performances. Noteworthy acts included traditional music performances by the Peruncong Group from Kampung Pichin and the Bung Bratak Culture Group, featuring the indigenous instrument ‘Sirotuang’. The event also featured a mesmerizing guest performance by the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association Kuching, adding to the vibrancy of the carnival atmosphere.
