KUCHING – Sarawak will once again step onto the international DanceSport stage as the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) prepares to send a team of young athletes to the TLOC – Thang Long Open Championship 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam, on October 4 and 5.

A total of five Sarawakian girls will represent the state in the prestigious competition, competing in the WDSF world ranking Latin solo events across Junior 1, Junior 2, Youth, and Adult categories. Their participation marks another milestone for Sarawak DanceSport, following the successful hosting of the Sarawak International Open DanceSport 2025 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) just days earlier.

SDA president, Chester Lim, said the opportunity to compete in Hanoi reflects the association’s continuous effort to develop young talent and expose them to international standards.

“This is a proud moment for Sarawak. Sending our girls to a world-ranking event is not only about medals, but also about giving them international exposure, building their confidence, and proving that Sarawak athletes can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in Asia,” Lim said.

Adding prestige to Sarawak’s involvement, Cindy Chung of the Russell, Randell & Cindy Dance Company has been officially invited as a judge for the Thang Long Open Championship. Her appointment highlights the trust and recognition given to Sarawak’s dance community on the global stage.

The TLOC Championship is expected to attract top competitors from across Asia and beyond, with categories ranging from juniors to adults. For Sarawak’s representatives, it will be a valuable platform to gain experience and raise the state’s profile in the international DanceSport arena.

Lim expressed confidence that Sarawak’s dancers will give their best and carry the state’s name with pride. “Win or lose, what matters is that they are gaining exposure and growing as athletes. This is how we build the next generation of DanceSport champions for Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said.

With strong leadership under the SDA and recognition for individuals such as Cindy Chung, Sarawak’s presence in Hanoi promises to further strengthen its role in promoting DanceSport both at home and abroad.
