KUCHING – A total of 250 schoolchildren in the Petra Jaya parliamentary constituency received school supplies under the Ceria Ke Sekolah Programme organised by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
The initiative, held on Monday, marked the first time TNB extended the programme to Sarawak since its launch in Peninsular Malaysia in 2013 as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, who is also Minister of Power Transmission and Water Transformation (PETRA) and Petra Jaya MP, said the constituency was chosen as the site for the programme despite TNB’s operations being limited to Peninsular Malaysia.
“TNB only supplies and generates power in Peninsular Malaysia, while in Sabah it is managed by Sabah Energy and Sarawak is managed by Sarawak Energy and SESCO. However, the organisation of the programme shows TNB’s commitment to help the people in Sarawak, especially in helping students prepare for school,” he said.
The assistance provided included school bags, stationery, clothes and shoes, alongside other forms of support from both the Federal and Sarawak Governments.
Datuk Amar Fadillah emphasised the importance of corporate involvement in education, noting that initiatives such as TNB’s programme help ensure no student is left behind.
He encouraged more companies to implement CSR programmes that contribute to the welfare and future of students.
The Ceria Ke Sekolah Programme reflects TNB’s broader commitment to community development, with its expansion to Sarawak seen as a meaningful step in supporting local education and easing the financial burden of families.
