MIRI: The wife of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, has graciously agreed to visit the Miri Handicraft Centre during her official trip to northern Sarawak, in a move that celebrates and supports local craftsmanship.

Arriving at approximately 2:30 PM, Toh Puan Fauziah received a warm welcome led by Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing (Women and Children Development), Datuk Rosey Yunus. Also present were Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin, wife of the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department; Rita Lau Leh Sien, wife of the Miri City Mayor; Geraldine Janely Doris Peter Kulai, representing the Miri District Officer; along with heads of departments and local community leaders.

The welcoming atmosphere was heightened by a traditional performance from 1 Beat Studio, Miri. Following the reception, Toh Puan Fauziah graciously signed the official guest book, marking her visit to the centre.

She then toured 13 exhibition stalls showcasing handcrafted items from Sarawak’s diverse ethnic communities. The exhibits included traditional weaving, beadwork, batik, textiles, and rattan products—each representing the rich cultural tapestry of the state.

Toh Puan Fauziah’s presence not only honoured the efforts of local artisans but also served as an inspiration to Miri’s creative arts community. Her visit reaffirmed the state’s commitment to preserving and promoting Sarawak’s cultural heritage through traditional crafts.

The event highlighted the essential role of art and culture in uniting communities and sustaining the legacy of Sarawak’s indigenous creativity.
