Nur Qaseh Deandra Mohd Qayyum, who was reported missing after she was believed to have fallen into a drain in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, was discovered at about 12.17pm by a specialised Water Rescue Team. The location of the discovery was approximately 11 kilometres from where the incident was first reported.

According to Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the operation involved continuous efforts by rescue personnel who had been deployed since the initial report was received. The search covered multiple areas along the waterway, as strong currents were believed to have carried the victim further downstream.

The case had drawn significant attention from the local community, with many expressing concern and hope for a safe outcome. However, the discovery confirmed the worst fears of the family and those involved in the search efforts.

Authorities said the child was believed to have slipped and fallen into a drain before being swept away by fast-moving water following recent weather conditions. Rescue teams had faced challenging conditions during the operation, including fluctuating water levels and debris along the river.

The body was recovered and later identified at the scene by the victim’s family members. It was then handed over to the police for further action, including post-mortem procedures to determine the exact cause of death.

Officials have once again reminded the public, especially parents and guardians, to be vigilant and ensure children’s safety near drains, rivers, and other water bodies, particularly during rainy periods when water currents can become unpredictable and dangerous.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks posed by open drainage systems and swollen rivers, especially in residential areas. Authorities have urged the community to report any hazards and to take preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
