Segamat, Malaysia: A university student met a tragic fate after drowning in a fish pond at the Agrofarm Aminah Rahmat Campsite in Segamat district this morning.

Segamat district police chief, Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah, reported that the incident occurred around 11:12 am. The victim, aged 23, was part of a group of 17 friends who visited the campsite to work on their Digital Marketing assignment amidst the serene surroundings.

According to Supt Ahmad Zamry, the group arrived at the campsite yesterday evening. However, tragedy struck when the victim, intending to leave by 9 am the next day, decided to take a swim in the campsite owner’s fish pond along with four friends at approximately 10:30 am.

Witnesses stated that the victim went missing around 11 am, prompting a frantic search by his companions. After 15 minutes, they discovered him submerged in the pond. Despite immediate efforts to administer first aid, tragically, the victim was pronounced dead by an assistant medical officer.

The victim’s body has been transferred to the Segamat Hospital’s forensics unit for autopsy. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

Supt Ahmad Zamry emphasized the importance of caution and awareness, advising the public to be mindful of their surroundings, especially when engaging in water activities, particularly in unfamiliar areas, to prevent such unfortunate incidents from occurring.
