KOTA KINABALU, Jan 10 – A heartbreaking road accident near Plaza Alam Mesra along Jalan UMS/One Borneo on Thursday night resulted in the deaths of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcyclist and his pillion rider were traveling from Sepanggar towards Kota Kinabalu city center when their motorcycle struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the road.

The collision’s impact caused the pedestrian to suffer fatal injuries, while the motorcyclist and his pillion rider were thrown approximately seven meters away from the crash site. Sadly, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries, while the pillion rider sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

The remains of both the pedestrian and the motorcyclist were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for postmortem examinations.

ACP Kasim added that the incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, particularly for pedestrians and motorcyclists, who are among the most vulnerable road users. Authorities urge all road users to exercise caution and abide by traffic regulations to prevent such devastating incidents.
