SIBURAN – A tree planting programme was successfully held at SK Rituh on 14 April 2026 as part of the school’s STEAM Week activities, which focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
The initiative saw the planting of 20 ornamental trees within the school compound, with around 150 students and teachers actively participating.
The event was organised in collaboration with the Sarawak Delta Geopark, which also facilitated a series of educational activities designed to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.
School representatives explained that the programme was intended to instil a sense of responsibility among students towards nature while complementing the academic focus of STEAM Week.
By combining practical environmental action with classroom learning, the initiative aimed to demonstrate how science and community engagement can work hand in hand.
Teachers noted that the activity provided students with hands-on experience in environmental stewardship, reinforcing lessons on ecology and sustainability.
The planting of ornamental trees was also seen as a way to beautify the school grounds, creating a healthier and more pleasant environment for learning.
The Forest Department Sarawak, which supported the programme, highlighted that tree planting initiatives contribute to broader conservation goals.
Officials emphasised that such activities help raise awareness about biodiversity and the importance of protecting green spaces, particularly among younger generations.
Community leaders praised the collaboration between the school and Sarawak Delta Geopark, noting that it reflects a growing emphasis on integrating environmental education into everyday learning.
They added that the programme encourages students to take pride in their surroundings and to understand the long-term benefits of sustainable practices.
Observers pointed out that initiatives like this not only strengthen environmental consciousness but also foster teamwork and community spirit among students and teachers.
The involvement of a large number of participants demonstrated strong support for environmental education in Siburan.
The organisers expressed hope that similar programmes would continue in the future, reinforcing the importance of sustainability and ensuring that students remain engaged in protecting the environment.
