Elderly Man’s Home Razed to the Ground in Tudan Desaras 5B Fire

Elderly Man’s Home Razed to the Ground in Tudan Desaras 5B Fire

MIRI: A temporary house occupied by an elderly man was completely destroyed in a fire at Tudan Desaras 5B here this morning.

According to Lutong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Henry Jugah, the station received an emergency call at 10.05am and immediately deployed a team of six firefighters along with one fire engine to the scene, located about nine kilometres away.

“Upon arrival at 10.14am, our team found that the wooden house, measuring approximately 10×15 feet, was already fully engulfed in flames,” he said.

The sole occupant, identified as Sabi Sang, 68, was reportedly not at home when the fire broke out. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were recorded.

Firefighters acted swiftly, using a 200-foot hose line and nozzle with water sourced from the fire engine’s tank to douse the blaze.

“The fire was brought under control by 10.20am and the operation concluded at 11.05am,” Henry added.

The cause of the fire and the estimated value of the damage are still under investigation by the authorities.

Meanwhile, local residents who witnessed the incident expressed relief that no lives were lost, although the fire left the elderly man homeless. Community members have reportedly begun gathering assistance to help Sabi rebuild his temporary home.

Incidents like this serve as a reminder of the importance of fire safety awareness, especially in areas with wooden structures and limited firefighting resources.

Authorities continue to urge the public to ensure that electrical wiring and appliances are properly maintained to prevent similar tragedies.
