BINTANGOR — A total of 70 village chiefs in Tulai, Meradong were officially presented with Native Customary Rights (NCR) land titles under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code, marking a significant milestone in the state government’s effort to secure land ownership for rural communities.

The handover ceremony took place at the Bintangor Community Hall on Friday and was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment and Kuala Rajang Assemblyman, Datuk Len Talif Salleh.

“The recognition and issuance of NCR land titles is a matter close to the hearts of the people,” he said. “We are working hard to expedite the process so that rightful owners have legal proof and clear boundaries for their land, preventing any future encroachments.”

Datuk Len detailed that the NCR Land Survey Programme, which began in 2010, is carried out in two phases — the first stage involves perimeter measurement and gazettement under Section 6, while the second stage covers individual lot measurement and title issuance under Section 18.

As of 30 June 2025:

  • 1,204,125 hectares (2.9 million acres) of NCR land have been measured statewide.
  • 937,655 hectares (2.3 million acres) have been officially gazetted.
  • 101,903 individual lots, covering 121,733 hectares, have been measured.
  • 32,614 lots, involving 44,828 hectares, have been issued land titles.

Datuk Len urged village chiefs, tribal leaders, and NCR land claimants to collaborate actively to ensure smooth implementation, while cautioning landowners against selling their land for short-term gain.

“The land should be used for agricultural development or family income generation,” he stressed, highlighting support from the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) for NCR land development.
