KUCHING – A community gathering in Tupong brought residents together in celebration of Syawal, highlighting the importance of unity and neighbourhood spirit.
The Ramah Tamah programme, hosted at Surau Pengiran Jaya on Saturday, was organised by KJM Jalan Simpor in collaboration with KRT Jalan Simpor and Surau Pengiran Jaya.
The event served as a platform to strengthen friendships and reinforce the bonds within the local community. Organisers emphasised that such initiatives are vital in fostering harmony and inclusivity, particularly during festive occasions.
Among those attending was the Honourable Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak and Assemblyman for N6 Tupong.
His presence underscored the significance of community-led programmes in nurturing social cohesion. “KJM Tupong is always committed to strengthening local community relations,” he remarked, noting that the organisation continues to support initiatives that encourage unity and well-being.
The programme also received support from Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU), which plays a key role in empowering neighbourhood activities. DBKU’s involvement reflects its broader mission to create a harmonious and prosperous city through active community engagement.
Deputy Director of DBKU’s Community Department, Mr Rudzaimeir Malek, and Head of Community Development and Services Division, Mr Ramli bin Omar, were also present.
Their participation highlighted DBKU’s commitment to working closely with grassroots organisations to ensure that residents benefit from inclusive and sustainable programmes.
Community events such as the Ramah Tamah gathering are increasingly recognised as essential in bridging social divides and promoting mutual respect among residents.
By encouraging participation across different groups, organisers aim to cultivate a stronger sense of belonging and shared responsibility.
The ceremony not only celebrated the festive season but also reinforced the role of local institutions in supporting neighbourhood development.
With continued collaboration between community leaders, religious institutions, and government agencies, Tupong is positioning itself as a model of collective spirit and resilience.
As Sarawak continues to grow, initiatives like these remain crucial in ensuring that development is matched by social harmony.
The Ramah Tamah programme demonstrated how cultural traditions and modern governance can work hand in hand to strengthen the fabric of society.
