LUBOK ANTU – The TVET NextGen Camp Programme, themed “Crafting the Experience, One Skill at a Time”, has successfully concluded at SMK Lubok Antu, engaging 80 Form 3 and Form 4 students in a two-day hands-on learning initiative.
The programme was designed to strengthen early awareness and appreciation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), offering students exposure to industry-relevant skills and practical competencies that align with future workforce demands.
Participants took part in interactive courses and activities focusing on technical proficiency, teamwork, creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving.
Among the modules conducted were NFT Hydroponic System, Basic Electric Installation, Basic Air Conditioning Installation, and Making Buns and Cookies.
During the closing ceremony, Mohamad Isham Fauzi, Chief Strategy Officer of Sarawak Skills, underscored the importance of TVET in shaping a resilient and competent workforce.
“TVET plays a pivotal role in preparing a skilled, competent, and resilient workforce. Programmes such as the TVET NextGen Camp are essential in cultivating early interest among students, enabling them to recognise the value of hands-on skills, industry exposure, and continuous learning in shaping successful career pathways,” he said.
He further emphasised that early engagement initiatives are crucial in bridging the gap between education and industry, empowering students to make informed decisions about their future education and career options.
School administrators and educators at SMK Lubok Antu expressed strong support for the initiative, noting its positive impact on student confidence, engagement, and career awareness.
The camp complements Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the TVET ecosystem, positioning skills-based education as a credible and attractive pathway for youth development.
It also reflects the state’s commitment to investing in talent development, fostering industry-ready competencies, and supporting national and state-level aspirations for a highly skilled workforce.
By equipping students with practical knowledge and industry exposure at an early stage, the TVET NextGen Camp Programme demonstrates how collaborative efforts between schools and training institutions can inspire future generations to embrace skills-based education and contribute to Sarawak’s economic sustainability.
