Two Dead, One Injured in Pan Borneo Highway Four-Wheel Drive Accident

TATAU, SARAWAK – Tragedy struck on the Pan Borneo Highway on the evening of April 28th when a four-wheel drive vehicle skidded and overturned into a ditch, leaving two people dead and one injured. The accident occurred on the Jalan Bintulu-Sibu stretch, around 6.39pm.

The victims, identified as Rolland Atok Eleh, 37, and Bayan Tubak, 60, were traveling in the vehicle when the driver lost control, causing the car to skid off the road. A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said that emergency services were swiftly notified, and a team from the Tatau Fire and Rescue Station, along with assistance from the Selangau BBP, rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team found the vehicle overturned in a ditch, with two of the victims trapped under the wreckage. One of the passengers managed to escape from the vehicle before rescuers arrived. Firefighters used special equipment to safely extricate the two other victims. Tragically, both were confirmed dead by the Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel at the scene.

The bodies were later handed over to the police for further investigation. The injured passenger was immediately treated and taken to a nearby medical facility for care. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, and this tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety.

The Pan Borneo Highway, which connects several key regions in Sarawak, has been the site of numerous accidents in recent months, raising concerns over road conditions and safety measures. As the investigation continues, the local community remains in shock over the loss of two lives on this busy stretch of road.
