KUCHING – Police have arrested three individuals and seized various types of illegal drugs following two separate operations carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) Kuching earlier this week.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu revealed that the first arrest took place on July 14 at around 3.30pm, targeting a house in the New Semariang Town area.

“A 25-year-old local man was detained. During the operation, police discovered 398 grams of suspected cannabis, valued at approximately RM11,940,” he said.

The man tested positive for THC, a substance found in cannabis. While he had no prior drug-related offences, he is now being remanded for seven days until July 22 to assist in the investigation.

In a second raid on July 15 at 12.40pm, police arrested a 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman at a residence in Tabuan Jaya.

“Seized in this raid were 258.74 grams of suspected ecstasy powder, 1.48 grams of syabu, and 0.95 grams of ketamine. The total estimated value of the drugs is RM621,” said ACP Alexson.

Both suspects tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, and benzodiazepines. The male suspect has four previous drug-related offences, while the woman has a clean record. They are now under five-day remand until July 21.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39B and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted under Section 39B, offenders may face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of whipping.

ACP Alexson urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected drug activities.
