Two-Storey House Catches Fire in Kampung Bintawa Hulu, Kuching

Two-Storey House Catches Fire in Kampung Bintawa Hulu, Kuching

Quick Action by Occupants Prevents Bigger Disaster

KUCHING, 6 April 2025 — A two-storey semi-permanent house along Jalan Kampung Bintawa Hulu in Kuching caught fire this evening, triggering an emergency response by the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP).

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), the distress call was received at 6.52 pm. Acting swiftly, a team of 16 firefighters was dispatched to the scene to control and extinguish the blaze.

Upon arriving at the location, the Operations Commander reported that the fire had affected the upper level of the house — specifically two rooms measuring 20×20 square feet each. These rooms were already partially engulfed by flames when the team arrived.

However, in a commendable act of quick thinking, the occupants of the house had already managed to put out the fire before firefighters reached the site. This immediate response was crucial in preventing further spread and damage.

“The fire involved approximately 30 percent of the upper floor, damaging several pieces of furniture and electrical appliances, including air conditioning units,” the statement read.

Firefighters then carried out a thorough inspection of the premises to ensure that no hidden embers remained and that the structure was safe. Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident.

The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation by relevant authorities.

This incident highlights the importance of fire safety awareness and the quick response of both the residents and the fire department, which played a critical role in preventing what could have been a much worse outcome.
